The Path to Becoming a Public Defender - Mini-Conference

The Public Defender Service of the District of Columbia is hosting a mini conference on Saturday, July 26 for law students interested in exploring careers in indigent criminal defense, featuring career, skills and substantive tracks and speakers from defense offices throughout the United States.  The program is from 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. at The George Washington University Law School.  The event is free.  To register, visit www.pdsdc.org.

4th Annual IMPACT Career Fair for Students and Attorneys with Disabilities

The 4th Annual IMPACT Career Fair takes place in Arlington, VA on Friday, August 15, 2008.  Employers will be present to interview law students and lawyers with disabilities from the Classes of 2010 and earlier from law schools across the country!   The registration deadline is July 11, 2008.  To register, visit http://www.law.arizona.edu/Career/Impact/welcome.cfm.

Attention Law School Career Professionals

NYU School of Law has written Public Interest Job Search Handbooks for each year of law school (1L-3L) that career counselors can use as templates and customize for their school.  Career counselors wishing to obtain the templates should email Deb Ellis at deb.ellis@nyu.edu.

The Federal Student Loan Forgiveness Law

Learn about the the College Cost Reduction and Access Act of 2007 recently passed by Congress from this Equal Justice Works fact sheet (PDF) and Tulane Law School fact sheet (PDF).  (NALP/PSLawNet is pleased provide these materials as reference resources only.  Law students and lawyers should speak with their financial aid office staff or a planning professional before making financial decisions).
